La economía del departamento del Cauca: concentración de tierras y pobreza

Abstract

El Cauca es uno de los departamentos con mayor diversidad, historia y riqueza en Colombia. Desde la fundación de Popayán en 1537, esta región ha jugado un papel importante para el país. En esta ciudad nacieron o se educaron muchos actores importantes de la historia de Colombia y durante muchos años fue epicentro económico y político del país. En la actualidad esta situación ha cambiado y el departamento se mantiene en una situación de rezago. Los problemas actuales del Cauca son diversos y muy complejos. Paradójicamente, muchas veces esos problemas se originan en de una de sus principales riquezas, su diversidad. En este documento se recogen algunos aspectos de esta problemática, tales como, la concentración de tierras, conflictos ambientales por su uso, pobreza y limitantes a la producción agropecuaria.
