Recomposición del empleo industrial en Colombia, 1974-1996

Abstract

El propósito del presente artículo es analizar el comportamiento del empleo manufacturero en las principales áreas metropolitanas y los elementos, de carácter nacional y regional, que han incidido en el comportamiento del empleo manufacturero utilizando el método Shift-Share, durante el período 1974-1996. Los resultados indican que en el área metropolitana de Bogotá es donde se concentra el mayor aumneto en el empleo, creciendo por encima de la influencia nacional y de ciudades como Medellín, Cali, Barraqnuilla, Cartagena, Manizales, Pereira y Bucaramanga, que por efectos de competitividad regional no han tenido gran capacidad de generación de empleo manufacturero. Ello ha originado un notorio dualismo entre la generación de empleo en Bogotá, frente al resto de áreas metropolitanas, fortaleciéndose la primacía urbana de la capital. La dinámica del sector exportador u su infuencia sobre el empleo, son considerados también factores de importancia en la explicación de los efectos diferenciales negativos, en el empleo de las distintas áreas metropolitanas.
