La ciudad de las mujeres: un análisis demográfico de Cartagena en 1875

Abstract

En este trabajo se analiza a la población de Cartagena de Indias en 1875 a través de los registros disponibles para un censo realizado por las autoridades locales. La ciudad que emerge es una en la cual la gran vitalidad económica y demográfica de fines del período colonial había dado paso al estancamiento y la emigración. También se había feminizado, aun más de lo que se observó en el censo de 1777, cuando ya las mujeres estaban en evidente mayoría. A la fecha ningún autor había estudiado este censo de 1875.
