Rural Development Opportunities in Special Forest Products

Abstract

This "paper" identifies some of the lesser known forest products, which we have chosen to call "special forest products" and highlights some of the activities that may facilitate the creation or expansion of jobs and income in rural America. These products also assist in obtaining self-sufficiency by providing food, shelter, clothes and adding to the quality of life. It is our hope that programs will be implemented to assist woodland owners, users of the forests, community planners and leaders in rural development to take advantage of the numerous opportunities that currently are going unnoticed.
