Abstract
Excerpts from the Foreword: This "Acreage Allotment and Marketing Quota Summary" has been prepared to help answer the principal questions which arise about operations of the Department's acreage allotment and marketing quota programs. These programs, which are conducted in conjunction with CCC price support programs, provide the means for helping to bring supplies in better balance with requirements. They are currently applicable to wheat, cotton, rice, peanuts and most types of tobacco. Acreage allotments and marketing quotas were applicable to all basic commodities as defined by the Agricultural Adjustment Act of 1938, but they were removed for corn under the Agricultural Act of 1958. The summary is not intended to be either a complete technical description of all phases of the acreage allotment and marketing quota programs nor a substitute for the commodity bulletins issued by the Commodity Stabilization Service. It merely summarizes the more important provisions relating to marketing quotas and acreage allotments contained in the basic legislation – the Agricultural Adjustment Act of 1938, as amended – and contains certain statistics with respect to operations.
