Abstract

This subject covers a good deal of ground and the discussion will be limited to the planning and methods used in selecting sites for power plants. We are concerned with three types of plants. Hydro, Internal Combustion and Steam. Hydro Electric Plant Elements: Topography, Hydrology, Geology, Federal and Territorial Jurisdiction, and Economic Details. Steam Electric Plant Elements: Water Supply, Topography, Subsoil Conditions, Fuel (supply and storage), Relation of plant site to electrical load center, Transportation facilities, Adequacy of site for expansion, Disposal of waste products (fly ash, ash), Amenities for employees, Taxes. Internal Combustion Power Plants: Site selection for an Internal Combustion plant is similar to that of a steam plant. In general, the same elements apply to both types of plants.
