Abstract
Excerpts from the report: The Little Colorado River Basin covers an area of over 17.2 million acres or 26,964 square miles; 21,667 square miles in northeastern Arizona and about 5,297 square miles in northwestern New Mexico. It extends into portions of seven counties in two states. These Include Coconino, Navajo and Apache Counties, in Arizona; and Catron, Valencia, McKinley and San Juan Counties, in New Mexico. The Basin is bounded on the north by the San Juan Basin, on the east by the Rio Grande Basin, on the south by the Gila and Salt River Basins and on the west by the Lower Mainstem of the Colorado River. There are five Indian reservations that lie partially or wholly within the Little Colorado River Basin. These include the Navajo, Hopi, Navajo-Ramah, Zuni and the Fort Apache Reservations. This appendix presents information on the basic resources within the Little Colorado River Basin. It provides input data for other study items and provides the users of the report with background information needed to understand conditions that exist in the Basin. This includes socio-economic data such as historical data on population, employment, agricultural and other production, income and earnings. Section 1: Physical Description. Section 2: Socio-Economic Base.
