Abstract

Excerpts from the report: Despite the present efforts to industrialize China, it is generally believed that agriculture will remain the mainstay of the country's economy for some time to come. The National Agricultural Library's Chinese collection contains publications which have been received for nearly a century and is one of the largest of its kind in the world. The present list provides bibliographic access to publications which were issued prior to the Communist takeover of the mainland in 1949. Most of the books and periodicals listed here are in Chinese, but some are in English, Japanese, French, German or Italian. The list also includes some of the important reports, working papers and other documents prepared by various technical missions and organizations. In addition to the publications on agricultural and biological topics some selected materials on other related subjects are included. This bibliography is divided into two major parts: serial publications and monographs. The bibliography also includes an author index and an index to titles.
