Abstract

Malawi faces significant risks from climate-induced disasters, with recent years marked by multiple cyclones and floods severely impacting livelihoods and infrastructure. This study examines the pre-disaster preparedness and post-disaster response measures in Southern Malawi's district councils, highlighting the critical challenges in social protection and early warning systems. Through qualitative data from key informants, findings reveal that resource constraints, poor coordination, and technical capacity gaps hinder effective disaster management. Recommendations include strengthening disaster policies, enhancing community awareness, and improving infrastructure. The insights aim to inform policymakers for better resource allocation and intervention strategies to build resilience against future climate shocks.
