Abstract

The 8th meeting of the “Section Forest Genetics / Forest Tree Breeding”, the German Dendrology Society (DDG) and the Forest Research institute Baden-Württemberg (FVA) took place in Freiburg im Breisgau / Baden-Württemberg from September 11–13, 2024. The focus of the three-day lecture event was on " Forests of the Future - Contribution of Forest Genetics and Forest Tree Breeding". There were more than enough reason for the conference. Climate change is becoming more and more obvious. The effects of the excessively dry and warm years in large parts of Germany pose challenges for forest owners and managers. With the meeting we tried to answer some of the questions. At the conference, 51 presentations were given, which were assigned to 10 blocks: drought stress tolerance, biotic stress, alternative tree species, forest reproductive material, new seed sources, genetic analyses, red oak I and II, adaptation and innovative approaches...
