Time lags to adoption: Acquisition of variety information by West Australian wheat growers

Abstract

Using the 'Time Lag to Adoption' approach the acquisition of varietal performance data by West Australian Wheat growers is examined. Areas were there arc anomalies in vruietal deliveries pointed to areas where there may be significant differences in the adoptive behaviours of growers, or differences in the activities of public or private extension agencies. Significant differences are found. Information network positions are used to supplement the 'Time lag' methodology, producing an eight fold increase in the predictive ability of the time lag model in this instance.
