Abstract

Der Beitrag zeigt wesentliche Phasen der Stadt- und Verkehrsentwicklung im östlichen Ruhrgebiet und dem Oberzentrum Dortmund seit dem Beginn der Industrialisierung auf. Der Fokus liegt auf der neueren Entwicklung hin zu einer nachhaltigen, auf die Verkehrsmittel des Umweltverbundes ausgerichteten Verkehrsplanung, für die der "Masterplan Mobilität" den Rahmen vorgibt. Dortmund steht beispielhaft für eine Reihe von Großstädten, die in der Zeit der ersten Industrialisierung stark wuchsen und ihre Siedlungsstruktur und Verkehrsnetze auf die Standorte der Großindustrien und deren Wohnumfelder ausrichteten. Mit dem wirtschaftlichen Strukturwandel und der Abkehr vom Leitbild der autogerechten Stadt ist ein tiefgreifender Umbaubedarf der Infrastruktur verbunden, der noch viel Zeit benötigen wird, aber durch die Anforderungen des Klimaschutzes und der sich verändernden Gesellschafts- und Wirtschaftsstruktur unter hohem Zeitdruck steht.
