Räumliche Implikationen einer auf Wissen basierten Wirtschaftsentwicklung

Abstract

Die Bedeutung des Wirtschaftsfaktors Wissen, sowohl als Produktionsfaktor als auch als Produkt und ökonomisch handelbares Gut, nimmt immer weiter zu, sodass von einem Übergang zur Wissensökonomie gesprochen werden kann. Unter der Annahme, dass die Wirtschaftsentwicklung künftig eine auf Wissen basierte Entwicklung ist, wird auch die räumliche Entwicklung von den Besonderheiten dieses Faktors bestimmt: Wissen ist kumulativ, Wissen ist an Personen gebunden, Wissen ist ein öffentliches Gut und beim Handel mit Wissensgütern bestehen große Informationsasymmetrien. Diese vier besonderen Eigenschaften von Wissen bewirken für sich genommen und in der Summe eine zunehmende räumliche Konzentration ökonomischer Aktivität. Das bedeutet, dass die bereits heute bestehenden räumlichen Ungleichheiten weiter zunehmen werden. Im Vorteil sind in der Folge solche Regionen, die bereits heute in der Lage sind, hochwertige Produkte und Dienstleistungen anzubieten.
