Abstract

I turn next to the theme of ethical AI. This is a subject I have circled back to repeatedly over the years, not because it is fashionable, but because it is urgent. For every earnest declaration about AI being harnessed for the good of humanity, there has been a disquieting reminder of how fragile those commitments are in practice. Chatbots that parrot humanity’s darkest prejudices, algorithms that quietly deepen inequities, deepfakes that unsettle our grasp of truth — these episodes show that when it comes to AI, lofty ideals and hard realities often part ways…
