Paraguay’s Progress Toward Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda

This chapter undertakes a comprehensive examination of the implementation status of the sustainable development goals (SDGs) in Paraguay and thoroughly explores the extent to which the country will be able to meet the rigorous sustainability standards set forth by the United Nations (UN) by the year 2030. Drawing upon the wealth of data retrieved from the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN), the researcher had identified a robust set of key indicators that are essential for monitoring the progress toward achieving these global goals. Through the application of advanced forecasting techniques, in particular, the AAA (Holt–Winters) version of the exponential smoothing (ETS) model, the study aims to prognosticate the future trajectory of these critical indicators in the Paraguayan context. The analysis paints a sobering picture, revealing that unless the country adopts a comprehensive suite of urgent regulatory measures and public policies, the ongoing trends suggest that Paraguay will fall short of meeting the UN average values for most of the SDGs, including areas of paramount importance such as public health, education, and environmental protection. The findings of this study underscore the pressing need for the Paraguayan government and policymakers to redouble their efforts and demonstrate a renewed commitment to the ambitious 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Failing to do so would not only jeopardize the country’s own progress but would also undermine the collective global efforts to create a more sustainable and equitable future for all. The researcher emphasizes the crucial role of robust data-driven analysis and evidence-based decision-making in guiding the nation’s path toward achieving the UN’s sustainability standards and realizing the transformative vision of the SDGs.
