Abstract

This conference has, in the last two days, hosted a very good discussion about the need to improve the incentive system in the financial sector so as to make the incentives of a financial institution's managers compatible with those of its investors; in this way, financial institutions will be selfdisciplined. In addition, many commentators have pointed to the need for strengthening regulations in order to make financial institutions more accountable. While economists may not agree with each other, both adequate incentives and better regulations are desirable…
