Abstract

Korea’s liberalization policy is often interpreted in terms of trade liberalization. Trade liberalization has certainly played an important role in Korea’s rapid industrial development and growth. There were, however, other liberalization policy efforts that played no less an important role in Korea’s development process. This chapter examines the liberalization policy from broader perspectives, covering not only trade and industrial policy but also financial, investment, competition, and technology policies, and then explains how these different policies affected the growth and development of the Korean economy over the past four decades from the 1960s through the 1990s…
