Abstract

At the end of the Sino-Japanese War, Mr. Lee Teng-hui came back to Taiwan in 1946 from Kyoto Imperial University, Japan and studied at the Department of Agricultural Economics at National Taiwan University (NTU), in Taipei. Three years later, he received his bachelor’s degree in agricultural economics, after which he remained as a teaching assistant at the university. In 1951, Mr. Lee was awarded a scholarship from the Sino-American Fund for Economic and Social Development, and traveled to Iowa State University in the United States to do research in agricultural economics. He returned to Taiwan in 1953, resumed his teaching job as an instructor at the Department of Agricultural Economics, NTU, accepted a post as a specialist and section chief at the Taiwan Provincial Department of Agricultural and Forestry, and also took the post of research fellow at Taiwan Provincial Cooperative Bank.
