Think of Ken Burns’s PBS series, The Civil War, or — in the realm of oenonomy — Jason Wise’s Somm (reviewed, volume 8, 2013, pp. 238–241). Rudi Goldman’s new film, Burgundy: People with a Passion for Wine, meets at least the first two requirements, which are necessary, if not sufficient conditions for documentary film excellence…
