Abstract

This research aims to identify features and develop measures for the digital transformation of agriculture. The authors assess the digital transformation of agriculture in countries with resource-saving and land-saving types of agricultural development, including Central Asia and the People’s Republic of China. The importance of digital transformation for ensuring sustainable development of agriculture in conditions of land scarcity in countries with a land-saving type of development is substantiated. The authors conducted a comparative assessment of macroeconomic development and digitalization of agriculture in Central Asia and China. In most Central Asian countries, the national economies have an agricultural orientation. Thus, the authors conducted a comparative analysis of the industry’s sustainability. The low potential for sustainable development of agriculture is emphasized, which is reflected in the aggravation of the problem of food security. Based on assessing the potential for connecting the agricultural economies of countries with a land-saving type of development, the authors proposed measures to improve structural changes in the development of agriculture and its digital transformation. In the context of developing the agricultural belt of the Chinese Belt and Road Initiative, the authors identified bottlenecks in digital transformation and developed recommendations for the further development of digital technologies in agriculture.
