Abstract

Our civilization has reached such a stage of its development when it faces the problems of survival. It causes the necessity to think about future generations and take measures to ensure global well-being. With this in mind, many countries developed and adopted a sustainable development strategy that must help current generations satisfy their needs without causing any harm to future generations. The tools of this strategy include a green economy. On the one hand, the green economy encourages the concurrent development of the economic, social, and environmental sectors. On the other hand, it imposes certain risks and restrictions. This research examines SD concepts, the green economy, and their interrelationship in various UN documents. The green economy and its subjects and functions are considered from the perspective of an institutional approach. The authors provided examples of green projects in different countries and outlined the stages of the economy and the risks associated with green development. Moreover, the role of international cooperation in achieving sustainable development is highlighted.
