Abstract

This research notes that global environmental problems, leading to large-scale crises, are serious challenges of the 21st century. In connection with emerging environmental crises, it is necessary to transform existing social and economic behavior patterns of the population toward conscious consumption and respect for the environment. The spread of environmental behavior among the population of Russia will promote the introduction of sustainable development goals in the country. It is believed that higher education is the most effective platform for preparing young ambassadors of environmental education who are critically thinking and ready for social activity. Higher education is currently “greened.” A green university must meet several standards, including interdisciplinarity, which makes it possible to consider environmental aspects within various disciplines, combine theory and practice, implement project activities, and conduct eco-tutoring. The formation and dissemination of environmental culture among students are significantly influenced by teachers who integrate environmental issues into their courses from the perspective of a specific discipline. In higher education, teachers and students contribute by separating waste for recycling, creating and developing environmental clubs, and conducting environmental education initiatives.
