Abstract

About 540 million years ago (in the so-called Cambrian period), life conditions on Earth were radically transformed,127 and life forms, living organisms, started differentiating. (The period is sometimes referred to as the Cambrian explosion, due to the rapid evolution of the biosphere.) In an article published in The Economist published in 2014, Ludwig Siegele compares the rapid spread of companies in the digital sector (start-ups) to this Cambrian explosion.
