Abstract

In the rapidly evolving digital landscape, artificial intelligence (AI) has emerged as a key transformative force in organizations, influencing decision-making, operational efficiency, and knowledge-sharing frameworks. Integrating AI effectively into organizational contexts demands leadership that is both adaptive and resilient. Resilient leadership has become a vital skill set in navigating the complexities of AI’s impact on the workforce, organizational culture, and governance structures.This chapter explores resilient leadership as an essential concept for organizations seeking to capitalize on the potential of AI while understanding and managing the human-centric risks associated with its adoption. It focuses on identifying the role of leadership in balancing technological advancements with human-centered values, ethics, and organizational resilience. The chapter examines how AI-driven transformation influences leadership dynamics and outlines the key competencies required for leaders to navigate AI adoption effectively, ensuring trust, accountability, and adaptive learning in an increasingly automated and data-driven environment.The concept of resilient leadership in the context of AI is informed by established leadership models, including transformational leadership (Bass, 1990), adaptive leadership (Heifetz and Linsky, 2017), and servant leadership (Greenleaf, 1977). These frameworks underscore the importance of leaders in managing change, inspiring innovation, and promoting ethical decision-making practices in a rapidly changing technological environment. AI’s potential to enhance decision-making processes, streamline operations, and enable strategic foresight (Brynjolfsson and McAfee, 2017; Davenport and Ronanki, 2018) presents significant opportunities for organizational improvement. Scholars highlight the challenges of over-relying on AI, noting risks such as algorithmic biases, data privacy breaches, and, more importantly, the erosion of critical and creative human judgment in decision-making (Binns et al., 2018). The resilient leader, therefore, must possess the capacity to navigate these challenges, ensuring the responsible and ethical deployment of AI technologies while safeguarding the essential human dimensions of leadership and organizational life.
