Next-Gen Educational Leadership in the Era of Artificial Intelligence: Defining the “Neoteacher”

This chapter introduces and theorizes the “Neoteacher” as a next-generation educational leader, equipped to address the pedagogical and technological demands of the digital age, particularly within the evolving landscape of artificial intelligence (AI) and digital transformation. The Neoteacher is conceptualized as an innovative professional identity that redefines the roles, competencies, and functions of higher education instructors in light of these emerging challenges. Drawing on a qualitative, exploratory case study focused on faculty development for Neolearning integration, the chapter presents a multidimensional skillset essential for enacting this new paradigm. Neolearning, anchored in experiential, learner-centered, and expansive pedagogies, positions educators to assume dynamic and fluid roles, including those of a manager, facilitator, evaluator, and mentor. Within this framework, Neoteachers emerge as transformative leaders who foster adaptive, collaborative, and engaging learning ecosystems responsive to the complexities of an AI-enhanced educational environment. The findings signal a paradigm shift in teaching and learning, highlighting the necessity for educators to pair advanced digital and pedagogical competencies with a critical, innovative mindset. As envisioned in this chapter, the Neoteacher is not merely an instructor but a catalyst for systemic change – empowering students to thrive in an increasingly interconnected and intelligent world.
