Knowledge Management Focused on Organizational Memory: A Comparative Study Between Spanish and Brazilian Organizations

Based on the assumption that knowledge management and organizational memory complement each other to help organizations achieve their strategic objectives, Damian and Moro-Cabero (2020) developed a knowledge management model focused on the characteristics of organizational memory, and its applicability was verified in Spanish and Brazilian organizations. The objective of this study is to carry out a comparative analysis of the results found in Spanish and Brazilian organizations to identify aspects that can contribute to the successful implementation of knowledge management in organizations. In terms of methodological approach, this study utilized a bibliographical survey based on the concepts involved in the research and interviews conducted with the managers of the Spanish and Brazilian organizations. Findings indicate that Spanish and Brazilian organizations were still in an incipient state regarding knowledge management and lacked organizational memory, indicating that there is significant work to be done in both areas. Beyond the differences and similarities between Spanish and Brazilian organizations, the use of a model for implementing knowledge management focused on organizational memory is fundamental. The originality of the study lies in the development of comparative analyses between Brazilian and Spanish organizations to adapt a knowledge management model that considers organizational memory. Its practical implications are to adapt a knowledge management implementation model that considers the characteristics of organizational memory so that more organizations are successful in this implementation and can, therefore, enjoy the benefits arising from knowledge.
