Abstract

The rise of artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming organizational knowledge management (OKM), driving the evolution toward intelligent organizations. This chapter explores the intersection of AI and OKM, highlighting how advanced algorithms, machine learning, and cognitive systems can optimize the creation, organization, dissemination, and application of knowledge within organizations. Therefore, the objective of this chapter is to critically examine and discuss the impact of AI on OKM, exploring the opportunities and challenges inherent in implementing these technologies in organizational contexts. To achieve this, the methodology is based on a robust literature review, analyzing contemporary theories and studies on the subject to provide an updated overview of AI’s role in enhancing OKM. The study’s main findings indicate that AI expands organizations’ cognitive capabilities by capturing and interpreting large volumes of data, automating OKM processes, and improving insight-driven decision-making, ultimately increasing organizational productivity. Technologies such as predictive models, natural language processing, and recommendation systems have the potential to structure both tacit and explicit knowledge, facilitating information access and enhancing team collaboration. Furthermore, AI is reshaping OKM processes by significantly impacting knowledge creation, storage, retrieval, sharing, and application. In terms of creation, AI enables the discovery of hidden patterns and the generation of new insights from vast datasets. Regarding storage and retrieval, AI enhances the organization of explicit knowledge by integrating multiple information channels. In sharing, AI fosters collaboration by connecting experts and creating dynamic knowledge networks. In applications, AI facilitates the retrieval of relevant knowledge and reduces barriers to accessing strategic information. The study’s primary contribution lies in advocating for human–AI collaboration as a critical factor for successful OKM. While AI provides specialized and analytical intelligence, humans play an essential role in bringing judgment, contextualization, and strategic vision. Therefore, building an effective symbiosis between humans and AI is crucial for organizations seeking to enhance their learning and innovation capabilities. By adopting learning-centered approaches and fostering collaborative intelligence between humans and AI, organizations can unlock the strategic value of these technologies, promoting more efficient knowledge management and creating a sustainable competitive advantage.
