Abstract

Nach zwei Stunden Diskussion erklärte Schumpeter die Ökonometrie als Wissenschaft für begründet: „A new discipline which for lack of a better name may be called econometrics“. Und die zuständige Fachgesellschaft, die Econometric Society, wurde gleichfalls aus dem Taufbecken gehoben: „Its main object shall be to promote studies that aim at a unification of the theoretical-quantitative and the empirical-quantitative approach to economic problems and that are penetrated by constructive and rigorous thinking similar to that which has come to dominate in the natural sciences.“ Erster Präsident der neuen Gesellschaft wurde Irving Fisher.
