Abstract

Zusammenfassung Das Verhältnis von Schulmathematik und (außermathematischer) Realität wird im vorliegenden Kapitel von der Feststellung aus beleuchtet, dass Mathematik einen Beitrag zum Verstehen der uns umgebenden Welt leistet, der einzigartig ist und nicht gleichwertig durch Beiträge aus anderen Disziplinen ersetzt werden kann. Für die Klärung des anregenden Potenzials von Realitätsbezügen im Mathematikunterricht wird zunächst betrachtet, wie Mathematik historisch aus außer- bzw. vormathematischen Fragestellungen entstanden ist, und wie Mathematik genutzt wird, um Realität zu beschreiben, vorherzusagen, zu erklären und zu gestalten. Anschließend wird u. a. unter Heranziehen einschlägiger bildungstheoretischer Grundlagen diskutiert, welche Begründungen, Zielsetzungen und Konzeptionen es für einen realitätsbezogenen Mathematikunterricht gibt, bevor aktuelle Herausforderungen für einen entsprechenden Unterricht und die auf ihn bezogene mathematikdidaktische Forschung dargestellt werden. In einem Ausblick wird skizziert, inwiefern „Machine Learning“ ein neues Paradigma des Anwendens von Mathematik darstellt, und welche Konsequenzen hieraus für den Mathematikunterricht folgen können.
