Abstract

Zusammenfassung Schenkt man den Aussagen von Entscheidungsträger*innen im Teamsport in der medialen Öffentlichkeit Glauben, dann spielt das Stadionpublikum für Athlet*innen und Vereine wie Verbände auch heute noch, d. h., in Zeiten eines zunehmend globalisierten Teamsports, eine gewichtige Rolle. In der Sportmanagement- und Sportökonomieforschung hingegen, fällt das Urteil zur Relevanz des Stadionpublikums – z. B. in Hinblick auf den vielzitierten Heimvorteil – oftmals deutlich verhaltener aus. Neben den empirischen Befunden zur (schwindenden) Bedeutung des Stadionpublikums für (a) den Spielausgang, wird im vorliegenden Beitrag auch die empirische Forschung zur Relevanz des Publikums für (b) andere Zuschauer*innen vor Ort, (c) die Konsumerfahrung der Medienzuschauer*innen, sowie dessen (d) ökonomische und (e) ökologische Relevanz für die Region im Umfeld des Austragungsortes zusammengefasst und praktische Implikationen abgleitet.
