Rechnen oder Rechnen lassen? Mathematik(unterricht) als Bürgerrecht und Bürgerpflicht

Abstract

Zusammenfassung Ein Ziel schulischer Bildung bestehet darin, die Heranwachsenden zu mündigen, politisch urteilsfähigen Staatsbürgerinnen und -bürgern heranzubilden. Im vorliegenden Beitrag wird erörtert, inwiefern Aufklärung gegenüber Mathematik in öffentlichen Angelegenheiten in diesem Rahmen ein wesentliches Anliegen mathematischer Bildung darstellt und wie zwei unterschiedlichen Bildungskonzeptionen (Heinrich Winter, Roland Fischer) sich zu der Frage verhalten, welche Art der Auseinandersetzung mit Mathematik zur Umsetzung dieses Anliegens wünschenswert wäre. An drei exemplarischen Beispielen wird schließlich konkretisiert, worin einerseits die Bedeutung von Mathematik in öffentlichen Angelegenheiten bestehen kann und was in den unterschiedlichen Beispielen jeweils ein mündiger Umgang mit mathematischen Modellen sein könnte (und was für einen solchen Umgang jeweils an (und über die) enthaltene( r) Mathematik verstanden werden müsste).
