Abstract

Numerical computations for morphing technologies applications were done to analyze the local morphing’s influence on the characteristics of aerodynamics for airfoils in low-Re flows. The dual-step Roe schema developed by Rogers was used to solve the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations revised by artificial compressibility method. And the transfinite interpolation method was adopted to generate moving grid. Dynamic response of the passive flexible morphing of an airfoil was computed by using analytic method in the paper. Based on the research in the flow of NACA0015 airfoil with 00 attack of angle at Re=10,000, it can be concluded that local active or passive flexible morphing with suitable parameters can effectively change airfoil’s flow structure, weaken flow separation, then lift efficient is increased and drag efficient is depressed. The mechanism of local morphing’s influence on aerodynamics in low-Re flows was analyzed in the paper finally.
