Abstract

Different theories and practices related to diversity have shaped the need for DQ. There are lots of theories that concern race such as critical race theory; however, there are few that deal directly with diversity. This is part of the confusion in the workplace caused by the introduction of the term diversity. Concepts and theories such as cognitive diversity, theory of diversity management, and value-in-diversity hypothesis all reveal a gap in diversity theory that can be filled by DQ theory. There is a need for the DQ theory perspective because of its direct focus on leaders’ role in diversity initiatives. The Hughes and Liang DQ scale©2020 adds support to the diversity intelligent perspective for leaders across industries.
