Abstract

Larsen and Shah, in this chapter, evaluate the case for carbon taxes in terms of national interest. They make a strong case for imposing small carbon taxes as equal yield partial replacement of corporate income taxes in both industrial and developing countries. Such introduction will enhance economic efficiency and economic welfare, will reduce health costs, and improve quality of life through a reduction in local pollution and combating global climate change.
