Extreme Value Theory for Fibre Bundles

Abstract

The bundle strength of a set of parallel filaments (fibres) is expressible in terms of an extrema of certain sample functions, and in this setup, the classical extreme value theory does not apply. This asymptotic theory is looked at from the point of view parametrics, semiparametrics and nonparametrics with due emphasis on the related robustness aspects. Some extensions to more complex models are considered, and the role of resampling methods is briefly examined.
