Effects of Online Training Design and Training Environment on Training Transfer During Covid 19

Abstract

Purpose This study aims to examine the effect of online training design and online training environment on training transfer during COVID-19. Design/Methodology/Approach Descriptive and causal research design has been employed in this study. Moreover, the present study has used individual unit of analysis as individual responses were collected from the education and banking sectors of Nepal. Altogether 210 respondents’ responses were collected for further analysis. Finding Exploratory factor analysis has found that the exogenous and endogenous variables of this study are loaded with intended factors. Moreover, confirmatory factor analysis showed that there is no issue of convergent and discriminant validity and the model is moderately fit. The structural model confirmed that the online training design is significantly and positively related to training transfer. However, the effect of online training environment on training transfer during COVID-19 is not supported. Practical Implications This research suggested that the service sector could strengthen training transfer through the appropriate design of training. However, in a developing country like Nepal, online training environments like Internet connection, appropriate resources, and training platforms like Zoom, Google Classroom, and Microsoft Teams are not suitable for training transfer. Originality/value The results of the relationship between online training design, training environment, and training transfer during COVID-19 contribute to the knowledge and practice among professionals, business organizations, and academia. The results suggest that online training design has a strong impact on training transfer which is valuable input to the business community and worthful to the academic literature.
