Global Experiences of Women Entrepreneurs in Business Performance: A Systematic Literature Review and Reflection for Future Development

Abstract

Globally, the contribution of women's entrepreneurship to society and the economy has increased noticeably. This paper presents a systemic review of 72 papers to examine the most studied factors that women entrepreneurs globally experience in determining their business performances and suggest areas for further research. This research paper has applied bibliometrics indicators from well-accepted databases to analyze the published papers gathered between 2013 and 2023. Four clusters were analyzed as key aspects in achieving their business goals: entrepreneurial orientation, entrepreneurial self-efficacy, informal institutions, and formal institutions. The review also found culture, family support and religion played a significant role in determining women's overall business performance outcomes because of the contexts and environments they come from. The review suggested four areas for further research to advance the discussion on women's entrepreneurship and business performance.
