Abstract

Industry 4.0 has introduced transformative changes to the manufacturing industry, marking a pivotal step in economic development through smart manufacturing and the creation of intelligent factories. This paper examines the role of 3D printing technology as a cornerstone of Industry 4.0 in the context of North East Region (NER) of India, a region with untapped industrial potential. By leveraging the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) as a theoretical framework, the study explores the integration of 3D printing into manufacturing processes, its impact on industry clusters, and its potential to foster sustainable manufacturing and regional industrial growth. The research delves into diverse industries in the region, including small-scale manufacturing, handlooms, handicrafts, and gifts and accessories, to identify challenges and opportunities associated with 3D printing adoption. Particular emphasis is placed on the initiatives undertaken by the Assam Electronics Development Corporation Ltd (AMTRON) to promote and integrate 3D printing technology in the region. The study further evaluates the influence of government policies, infrastructure development, and workforce readiness in facilitating this technological transition. This paper provides actionable insights and policy recommendations for fostering innovation, enhancing economic competitiveness, and expanding the use of 3D printing within the region. By aligning with the broader objectives of Industry 4.0, the research highlights pathways to transform North East India into a hub for sustainable manufacturing, driving growth on both national and international scales.
