Abstract

The paper seeks to examine the role of renewable energy investments in promoting sustainable economic growth in emerging economies from the perspective of reducing energy costs. The study uses an exploratory analytical approach to analyze secondary data derived from publications of international economic organizations from 2015 to 2024 to assess the contribution of renewable energy sources to sustainable economic development. The results show that renewable energy sources can reduce dependence on imports, allowing developing countries to diversify their economies and protect them from unexpected fluctuations in fossil fuel prices while promoting significant economic growth, job creation, and poverty alleviation. Investment in renewable energy sources in low- and middle-income countries has become a priority due to its ability to reduce energy costs. The results of this research emphasize the importance of economic savings in energy costs resulting from the transition to renewable energy sources, addressing technological constraints, enhancing energy independence, creating social capabilities, promoting economic growth, and ensuring effective resource management in emerging countries. This study combines two main objectives of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals: providing clean and sustainable energy sources and achieving sustainable economic development. This study adds to the economic literature by enhancing the understanding of economic policymakers in developing countries of the cost dimensions of the strategic shift toward investment in renewable energy sources.
