The Dual Role of Immigrant Entrepreneurship’s Contributions and Challenges Affecting Social and Personal Well-Being

Abstract

This manuscript aims to critically evaluate the various challenges and opportunities faced by entrepreneurs and affecting their personal and social well-being. Hence, this paper assess the role of immigrant entrepreneurship by comparing their challenges and contributions. Using bibliometric analysis and systematic approach, it depicts themes to explore dual role played by immigrant entrepreneurship to drive economy and the consequences on individual’s mental health as well as social integration. Various barriers including regulatory challenges, financial constraints, discrimination, and low social support impact immigrant entrepreneurs’ personal well-being. Despite that positive contributions of immigrant entrepreneurship could not be ignored, especially fostering community cohesion, increasing socio-economic mobility, and developing social capital for their community and economy. The novelty of paper is that it has considered intersectional analysis by linking the immigrant entrepreneurs’ economic activities with their social and personal well-being. The paper explores often overlooked psychological burdens such as stress and isolation that develop in foreign environments. Moreover, the novelty of paper is that it sheds light on transactional ties and role of cultural identity in forming immigrant entrepreneurial experiences. The paper is important in identifying the factors and call for policy reforms to ensure the tailored support for immigrant entrepreneurs help in dealing with complexities.
