Abstract

In the present scenario, the role of the computer is predictable in society. Effective communication skills are crucial for satisfying customers. If an Engineer excels in communication skills, it results in excellence of other skills like voluntary leadership, presentation skills, etc. With the boom in technology, Engineering Grandaunts can improve their communication skills in many interesting and easy ways. The Engineering curriculum is also revised periodically to meet the expectations of the employers. Still, unemployment persists, and one of the vital reasons is poor communication skills of the engineering graduates, particularly from rural background. Consequently, the researcher has chosen rural-based engineering colleges for sample respondent selection. In order to determine the actual impact, the current research examines the role of the English Language Laboratory that plays in improving language proficiency. The sample respondents are chosen from I, II, and III year. A questionnaire was circulated among the sample respondents to assess the possibilities of enriching their language skills. Normative survey method is used to analyze the responses. The findings of the research shows that there is a significant change in the level of language skills when using Computer-Based Technologies to enrich the language proficiency. While more attention is given to Language Labs, budding engineers’ communication skills will be honed up.
