Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship of the dimension of social capital and behavioral intention of information and communication technology (ICT) toward virtual team performance in Indonesia. This study is cross-sectional, using a quantitative approach with PLS-SEM as the chosen data analysis method via SmartPLS 4. A total of 390 respondents were collected, in which the target audience is Indonesian employees who actively engage in a virtual work environment. Results found that 2 out of 3 dimensions of social capital (structural and cognitive social capital) have a significant direct and positive effect on behavioral intention of ICT. It also revealed that the behavioral intention of ICT has a strong impact on enhancing virtual team performance. As behavioral intention of ICT serves as the center variable, it suggests that social capital has an indirect relationship toward virtual team performance, which is mediated through the behavioral intention of ICT. Moreover, this paper contributes to the growing literature on virtual teams in the corporate world, integrating social capital theory and theory of planned behavior (TPB). It also provides some recommendations for managers in enhancing virtual team performance by focusing on creating strategies to strengthen the impact of social capital and behavioral intention. The limitations of this study include the cross-sectional design, which only reflects a single point in time, and the scope of this study, which restricts the model from a global application.
