Abstract

This study examines the relationship between efficiency and the regulatory framework in Malaysian Fintech companies. It identifies three key themes from six semi-structured interviews across sectors such as payments, e-wallets, proptech, and e-lending. Analysis with ATLAS.ti shows that operational efficiency—aimed at boosting competitiveness, reducing costs, and fostering innovation—must still comply with regulations to ensure sustainability. Evidence suggests that Shariah-compliant practices can also introduce innovative approaches to operational management. Increased digital literacy, supported by government incentives, further boosts Fintech development. The study highlights that sustainability values are driven by the combined forces of efficiency and regulation, forming the core conceptual framework. This research enhances understanding of how digital transformation interacts with efficiency and regulation in Malaysia's Fintech sector. The insights offered may guide industry practices and stakeholder strategies. Finally, it encourages future research to apply grounded theory across various Fintech sectors and to explore consumer-centred organisations that address digital trust and adoption barriers.
