Abstract

This paper is part of a larger study that explores patterns in women’s participation in active leisure activities regarding time and money spending behaviors. This particular paper examines the results of a focus group that was conducted with the participation of eight professionals within the active leisure industry. The focus group discussion revolved around women’s participation in active leisure activities, and more precisely, those women who have children under the age of 18. The purpose is to recognize the fundamental motivations, barriers, and contextual factors that influence the specific population’s decisions regarding time and financial investment related to these activities. Using a coded framework, the analysis identifies and groups thematic responses based on frequency and content. Key themes relate to time commitment, motives in participating, and spending on active leisure activities. These themes highlight the varied motivations and barriers experienced by women with underage children in participating in active leisure. The analysis is conducted with frequency counts, grouped quotations, visual representation, and researcher interpretation to reflect the reporting format commonly used in NVivo software. This report provides practical value to leisure service providers, marketers, and policymakers aiming to increase accessibility and participation among women in active leisure activities.
