Effect of Green Supply Chain Management on Economic Performance: A Case Study of Business Learners in Can Tho, Vietnam

Abstract

This research aims to clarify the connection between green supply chain management (GSCM) and economic performance by analyzing the viewpoints of business students (Business Administration, International Business, and Logistics and Supply Chain Management) in FPT University, Vietnam. A standardized questionnaire was used to gather data from a sample of 393 students currently enrolled in business administration and international business degree programs. This research analyzed the components of Green Supply Chain Management (environmental education, internal environmental management, green manufacturing, and green distribution) and their effects on economic performance by structural equation model (SEM) on AMOS 24.0 software. The findings show that green manufacturing had the highest advantageous effect on economic performance (0.427). The subsequent impacts of green procurement and green distribution are very minor but significant, with coefficients of 0.208 and 0.163, respectively. The positive impact of GSCM on economic performance has been widely documented in the literature. This study further strengthens the evidence of the relationship between GSCM and economic performance. In particular, the study contributes to the finding that students exposed to GSCM education during their university years will cultivate future entrepreneurs with a high awareness of green economics and socially responsible business. Therefore, it is necessary and important for universities to provide courses on socially responsible business and environmentally sustainable production. Incorporating concepts related to environmental management and business ethics is very important.
