Innovation in Sustainable Manufacturing: A Bibliometric Analysis of Publications

Abstract

Innovation is a critical factor in the promotion of sustainable development and the competitive advantage of enterprises. Innovation has a beneficial impact on productivity and performance in the manufacturing sector. This paper employs bibliometric analysis to investigate the comprehensive extent of innovation within the manufacturing sector. From 2006 to 2024, the authors employ VOSViewer software to analyze 365 papers in the Scopus database. The findings provide insight into the evolution of documents in this discipline over the various years. They also examine the most frequently cited countries, most influential authors, and most subjects, as well as the most frequently used keywords in these papers. India is the country in which the most papers are published of the 365 papers from 68 countries, with 75 papers. The sustainable manufacturing sector has produced the most publications on innovation, with 214 papers dealing with engineering “sustainable manufacturing” is the most used keyword, with a total link strength of 1100. The most frequent innovation was in the sustainable manufacturing sector, with sustainable manufacturing, manufacturing sustainability, industrial research, and circular economy following its lead. A total of 1176 authors have contributed to the publication of papers on innovation in the sustainable manufacturing sector. The paper concluded by examining the current trends in sustainable manufacturing innovation.
