Abstract

Sustainable investment includes environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors for making investment decisions instead of taking only financial considerations. An environmental footprint (EF) is a sustainability indicator that calculates how much influence a person, a company, or an activity has on the environment. The EF index is a sustainability index that measures the resources required to produce the goods for consumption. EF is a complete thought that starts with an individual and ends with the planet. The main purpose of this study is to understand how the EF can be reduced with the use of sustainable investment (SI) for achieving a sustainable future. There is a complete review of research papers to understand and explore the concept of sustainable investment and EF. This study aims to conduct a state-of-the-art review of papers related to sustainable investment indexed by Science Direct, ProQuest, Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar. This literature study explains the different approaches to sustainable investing, the prospects and challenges of sustainable investment, and also different ways to reduce the environmental footprint. This research connects the information gap and simplifies the understanding of sustainable investment and EF. It will support budding research on sustainable investment and EF to generate value for corporations and the sustainable development of society at large.
