Abstract

Plastic waste management is a growing environmental concern, with millions of tons of plastic discarded globally yearly. The challenge lies in efficiently recycling plastic waste while ensuring cost-effectiveness, accessibility, and ecological sustainability. Traditional recycling methods are often energy-intensive and require heavy industrial equipment, making them impractical for small businesses, municipalities, and rural communities. This research proposes the development of a solar-powered mechanical shredder as an innovative, eco-friendly, and cost-efficient solution to plastic waste management. The study explores such a system’s technical design, economic feasibility, market potential, and sustainability benefits. Additionally, real-world case studies from India and developing nations demonstrate how decentralized and renewable energy-powered waste management solutions can be scalable and impactful. The findings suggest that integrating solar energy with mechanical shredding technology can significantly reduce operational costs, enhance recycling accessibility, and contribute to a cleaner environment.
