Abstract

Sri Lanka remains one of the most attractive investment destinations in the Asia-Pacific region, especially after ending elongated terrorism in 2009 by the present government of Sri Lanka. As stated in Development Policy Framework released by the government of Sri Lanka in 2010 in ‘Mahinda Chinthana – Vision for the Future’, it is expected to position Sri Lanka to be the Emerging Wonder of Asia. In achieving this aspiration, investment is welcomed by the government in virtually all sectors of the economy in order to expand, diversify and upgrade the industrial and export base of the country. In this milieu, the paper introduces economic background of the country while highlighting the reasons for investing in Sri Lanka together with main strategic perspectives and current challenges.
