Abstract

Good health and a composed mind are a reflection of a person’s well-being. Nowadays, stress has become an inevitable part of our daily lives. Sometimes, stress is beneficial as it pushes us to perform well while too much stress has its negative effects. An individual who is exposed to stress for a prolonged period often experiences exertion on physical and mental health. Students are the building blocks of a nation and the leaders of tomorrow. This chapter is an attempt to present the emotional and financial stress the students are exposed to during their college life. A study on 218 postgraduate management students shows that they experience emotional and financial stress from moderate to extreme levels. With the use of descriptive analysis and factor analysis, the findings and the possible way ahead have been presented. Based on the results, suitable suggestions have been put forth to mitigate the effect of stress on students. The chapter also links the benefits of emotional intelligence as a tool to combat stress. Higher emotional intelligence helps to improve understanding, communicate effectively and assist to manage one’s emotions which relieves stress. Thus, reduced stress maintains good health and helps them to grow in their personal and professional domain.
